Queens Park Community Church began in 1991 as an ecumenical initiative to support a large housing development in north-west Billericay, with monthly services at a local community centre. Although partner churches eventually dropped out, Methodists from Western Road persisted, holding weekly services whilst searching for a site for a permanent church. They envisaged a church building close to neighbourhood shops to serve both as a place of worship and as a centre for community activities. In 1997, they took a giant step forward when the church bought a prominent site from the local authority and launched a building project for £350,000. Vision became reality in 2003 when a new church building was opened and dedicated by the Rev Ermal Kirby, then chairman of our Methodist district. |
Part of the community
Helen Croft has joined us as outreach worker, based in Queens Park.
I enjoy reading, going to the flicks and drinking lots of coffee with friends. You need to know I've not inherited a beautiful voice of song for which Wales is known but I certainly enjoy praising and worshipping God. I arrive in Essex after working for Methodist Churches in Highworth & Blunsdon, north Swindon where I had probably the longest title in the Methodist Church, 'Lay worker for evangelism and discipleship predominately but not solely with children, young people and their families.' Phew! Prior to my appointment in Highworth I studied at Moorlands College, Christchurch, Dorset where I achieved a BA in Applied Theology; I'm still trying to work out how! I'm very excited about the future at
Queens Park and looking forward to what God has in store for us. |
